The year 2011 starts auspiciously for the Philippine Wrestling Team, as its athletes proved their fitness and versatility with top performances by cross competing in other sports, namely grappling and running.

Last Sunday, February 20, the 2009 Southeast Asian Games Silver Medallist Paulo Delos Santos and former National Champion Noel Norada both bagged a silver medal each in their respective weight divisions at the 2011 Philippine Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu International Open - No Gi Grappling event, where they represented the Christian MMA - Fabricio Team under Coach Michael Villafuerte.

Previously, Norada also placed 4th with Greco-Roman Wrestling specialist teammate Greggy Jandog landing 5th, in the 5 kilometer event of the St. Jude Catholic School Alumni Association (SJCSAA) Run for Fun, Race for Place 2011, held on January 30 around the SM Mall of Asia grounds. The three athletes are also members of the Manila Wrestling Team, with Delos Santos as playing coach and Norada and Jandog as athletes, under team manager and Manila Barangay Kagawad Melvin Sia.

Later in the year, they will attempt to qualify for the 2011 London Olympics by placing among the top six of their respective events and weight classes in September's World Senior Wrestling Championship in Turkey. On November, the team seeks to improve on its three gold medal finish from the previous SEA Games, by winning a minimum of four this time around in the regional games in host country Indonesia.
