An all-time high of 94 young participants, aged 10-15 years old, and a record 180 matches were featured in the National Wrestling Championship of Batang Pinoy 2012 that was hosted by Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro. The championship was a featured alongside the rest of the Southern Luzon qualifiers of the different sports of the Batang Pinoy-an annual grassroots competition organized by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) and the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC).

The 180 matches were a groundbreaking record for all competitions held by the Wrestling Association of the Philippines (WAP) since its inception, and the number of participants doubled that of last year's Batang Pinoy National Wrestling Championship.

The participating teams were the Baguio Wrestling Team, Ifugao Wrestling Team, Zamboanga Wrestling Team, Quezon City Wrestling Team, Mandaluyong Wrestling Team, Taytay Wrestling Team, Marikina City Wrestling Team, Laguna Wrestling Team, and the Bulacan Wrestling Team.

We in WAP would like to express our sincerest appreciation to Hon. Gov. Alfonso Umali of Oriental Mindoro, who raced our competition and awarded the medals, to the City of Calapan, and to the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) and Philippine Sports Commission (POC) for their support.
